I was commissioned by Family Circle Magazine to photograph Nicole Cardoza, founder of Yoga Foster, for the magazine’s Local Hero feature. Nicole founded the nonprofit to help educators bring movement and yoga into the classroom through training, curriculum and ongoing support.

We photographed Nicole at her home in Pennsylvania, creating a mix of environmental portraits and images incorporating yoga and movement. With generous time for the assignment, we were able to explore several locations and setups while giving the magazine a varied selection of photographs for the feature.

Editorial Portraits on Location

Working on location gave us the opportunity to create portraits that felt connected to Nicole and her work rather than relying on a single studio setup. We moved through several compositions and lighting approaches, creating both traditional editorial portraits and more active photographs built around movement.
