Editorial portrait photography for magazines, publications and creative teams. I work on location throughout Philadelphia and beyond, creating distinctive portraits that give editors and art directors strong options for covers, features and layouts.

Portraits Made on Location


Editorial assignments often come with limited time, unfamiliar locations and a specific story to tell. I work with the subject and environment to create a range of portraits while keeping the shoot efficient and comfortable.


Some assignments come with an established creative brief, while others leave more of the direction to me. I’m comfortable working either way, collaborating with editors and creative teams or developing the approach on location.

Do you work directly with magazines and publications?

I work with magazines, publications, agencies and other creative teams on commissioned portrait assignments. Depending on the project, I may work directly with a photo editor or art director, or coordinate with a local subject on behalf of an out-of-town publication.

Can you work from an art director’s brief or layout?

Absolutely. When a creative brief, layout or shot list is provided, I use it to guide composition, orientation and the variety of images we create. When the direction is more open, I can develop the visual approach based on the subject, location and story.

How much time do you need with the subject?

Shoot time varies considerably by assignment. Some editorial portraits need to be created within a short window, while others allow time for multiple locations, lighting setups and wardrobe changes. Knowing the available time in advance helps me plan the most useful range of photographs within it.

Can you provide horizontal and vertical options for different layouts?

When the assignment calls for it, I photograph with final placement in mind and can create a mix of horizontal, vertical, tighter and wider compositions. I can also account for cover lines, headlines, text placement and other layout requirements when those needs are provided in advance.
